Let me introduce some delicious souvenirs!

Osaka’s famous confectionery “Tsurigaeshi Manju” (Bell-shaped Bun)

The “Tsurigaeshi Manju” (Bell-shaped Bun) is sold by the long-established Japanese confectionery shop “Tsurigoya Honpo,” which has been operating in Osaka’s Ebisucho since 1900 (Meiji 33).

The creation of the bell-shaped manju was inspired by the donation of a large bronze bell at Shitennoji Temple, the oldest Buddhist temple in Japan, by local supporters. This was done to commemorate the bell, and the manju was introduced as a souvenir for visitors to the temple. It became one of Osaka’s signature treats.

Today, it remains a popular souvenir for those visiting the Shinsekai area and Tsutenkaku Tower. I purchased it at YUKO’S SHOP, located right in front of Tsutenkaku Tower.

The “Tsurigaeshi Manju” is a castella bun shaped like a bell, filled with smooth red bean paste (koshian)! It’s easy to eat and delicious!

This is the spring limited edition of the Tsurigaeshi Manju with sakura (cherry blossom) flavored red bean paste. It has an elegant taste that captures the essence of spring. Limited edition manju are also released for other seasons, so be sure to check them out!

There are three types of Western-style manju: an-butter, strawberry an-butter, and bitter caramel. The traveling cat tried the strawberry an-butter manju, and the combination of strawberry and an-butter blended perfectly, making it so delicious that I could have eaten several more!

You can purchase them individually, making them perfect for a snack while strolling around Shinsekai. They also come in sets of 5 or 10, making them a great option for souvenirs to share with others in Osaka!

Take home Tsutenkaku!? “Tsutenkaku Crispy Chocola”

A crispy chocolate version of the iconic Tsutenkaku, now in a size you can take home! This time, I brought back 7 Tsutenkaku chocolates. I purchased them at Waku Waku Land, located under the Tsutenkaku Tower.

In addition to strawberry and café mocha flavors, there were other options, but this time I went with the classic Tsutenkaku Crispy Chocolate. Shaped like the Tsutenkaku Tower, it’s coated with white chocolate. When you bite into it, the crispy cereal inside pairs perfectly with the white chocolate! It also contains cranberries, offering a wonderful balance of sweetness and tartness.

Each piece is individually wrapped, making it a great option for gifting to friends or colleagues. In addition to the 7-piece Tsutenkaku pack, there are also options with 16 and 24 pieces. You can choose the quantity that best suits the number of people you’re gifting to!

“Bonchi Age,” the fried rice cracker born in Osaka.

“Bonchi Age,” the fried rice cracker born in Osaka, has been loved and enjoyed for over 60 years. It is now available in a flavor perfect for Osaka souvenirs!

The flavor is Takoyaki Sauce! Exclusively sold in the Kansai region, it allows you to enjoy the regular taste of Bonchi Age while also savoring the delicious flavor of takoyaki sauce!

I bought this at a souvenir shop called “Kokomo Yotteya,” located very close to Tsutenkaku! It seems to be very popular, as it was sold out right after I purchased it.

The takoyaki sauce-flavored “Bonti Age” comes in a box of 30 pieces, and the packaging features the official character, Bonti Neko! As a fellow cat lover, I feel a special connection to it!

Each piece is individually wrapped, and the size is just right for a single serving. The packaging features Bonti Neko dressed as a takoyaki vendor wearing a headband, which is adorable! This is sure to be a popular and delightful souvenir from Osaka!

The packaging, which is uniquely Osaka, is stylish! Drip-pack coffee.

A perfect souvenir for coffee lovers! The drip-pack coffee comes in a stylish package featuring Osaka-inspired illustrations and text. This time, I chose two different designs and bought them!

The simple illustration of round black glasses and a bowtie is paired with colorful hues, which surely reminds you of Kuidaore Taro, doesn’t it? The bold “Osaka” text adds a strong impact, making it the perfect souvenir for your Osaka trip!

This package features “Ookini,” which means “thank you” in Osaka dialect. It could be a great souvenir to give, expressing gratitude along with a taste of Osaka!

“Osaka Chaw Chaw Cha” – The Cute Chow Chow Stands Out!

When it comes to Japan, it’s all about tea! That’s why I chose ‘Osaka Chaw Chaw Cha.’ I was drawn to the cute Chow Chow dog illustrated on the package and decided to buy it!

People who aren’t from Kansai might wonder why it’s a Chow Chow, but I think it’s a play on words between the Chow Chow dog and the Kansai dialect expression ‘chau chau’ (meaning ‘no, no’). This is just something I thought of as a traveling cat… (laughs)

Also, it’s easy to associate the name with the famous phrase, ‘Are you sure that’s not a Chow Chow?’ (referring to the dog) followed by ‘No, that’s definitely not a Chow Chow!’ These playful exchanges could be fun to say when giving this souvenir!

This time, I chose Lemon Uji Green Tea! The refreshing lemon blends perfectly with the rich flavor of green tea, creating a crisp and refreshing taste. It’s a flavor that even people who aren’t fond of green tea can enjoy. The traveling cat also tried it and felt the delightful taste of green tea, followed by the refreshing lemon aftertaste!

There are still many more Osaka souvenirs!

This time, we introduced 5 must-buy souvenirs from Shinsekai! There are still many more Osaka-exclusive souvenirs that are uniquely Osaka! Be sure to explore the souvenir shops thoroughly when you visit Shinsekai!
