A Nostalgic Coffee Shop “Coffee Rumba” in Osaka’s Retro Downtown: Tenkachaya

Tenkachaya, located in Nishinari Ward, Osaka, is known as a haven for vacation rentals and is famous for its vibrant, retro downtown atmosphere! With many old-fashioned restaurants and coffee shops, it’s a beloved spot for those who enjoy a Showa-era (1926-1989) retro vibe.

Today, I’d like to introduce “Coffee Rumba,” a long-established coffee shop that has been in business since the Showa era and can be accessed directly from the platform of Kitanakatenchaya Station! If you’re staying at It’ ta de LYCKA in Matsuda-cho, it’s just one stop away, so be sure to drop by!

First Visit to Coffee Rumba! A Must-Visit Retro Café

What is the Long-Established Coffee Shop “Coffee Rumba”?

Coffee Rumba” is a long-established coffee shop that can be entered from the platform of “Kitanakatenchaya” Station on the Hankai Tramway Hankai Line, Osaka’s streetcar system. It has been cherished by the locals since the Showa era.

As mentioned earlier, the coffee shop can be entered directly from the station. There is also an entrance on the opposite side of the platform, both of which exude a charming Showa retro atmosphere. The shop opens at 7 AM, and many regulars often spend their mornings here leisurely. Recently, many foreign tourists have been visiting, and the menu is now available in Japanese, English, Chinese, and Korean!

A Rich Menu During Service Time!

At Coffee Rumba, they offer a service time from 7 AM to 1 PM, where you can choose from 10 different menu items!

The price is very reasonable at 400 yen (please note that prices may change, so be sure to check before you visit), and the set includes a main dish, a salad or ice cream or boiled egg, and a drink. As some menu items might sell out before 1 PM, it’s recommended to visit early!

Traveling Cat’s First Visit!

Traveling Cat also made its first visit to “Coffee Rumba”!

Just one station away from It’ ta de LYCKA in Matsuda-cho, it’s a quick and easy trip. The entrance, located right on the platform of the retro streetcar, had a lovely Showa-era vibe, which was very charming! There were 10 menu items available, but since it was just before noon, some were already sold out. When Traveling Cat entered the shop, regular customers were enjoying a relaxed time.

This time, Traveling Cat ordered the pancake set! The pancakes were served on a red one-plate dish, and they tasted like classic pancakes from the old days—delicious! It was a hot day, so the iced coffee was perfect for cooling down. Originally, the shop used to run a coffee bean wholesale business, and it seems they also sell coffee beans directly.

The pancake set also included ice cream, which was cold, sweet, and very tasty.

The interior of the shop had an old-fashioned atmosphere, and Traveling Cat took several photos. Of course, the staff kindly allowed photos to be taken!
